Military
Kitty Hawk Offshore is in alignment with the DOD’s mission to address climate change by expanding the use of renewable energy. The proposed project will be located in a Wind Energy Area that has been carefully planned in consultation with the military.
MISSION COMPATIBLE
WORKING TOGETHER TO AVOID IMPACTS
We are working closely with military leaders and local military bases to design and operate a wind project that avoids any adverse impact on military operations. These considerations are fundamental to our planning.
The military has already defined offshore areas which are off limits. They will continue to be involved throughout project design and permitting.
MISSION CRITICAL
ENHANCING NATIONAL SECURITY AND STRENGTHENING COASTAL RESILIENCE
Renewable energy is critical to U.S. national security. Free and inexhaustible fuel is available near the point of use and there is less risk of supply interruption or price fluctuation.
MISSION DEPENDENT
PROVIDING JOBS FOR VETERANS
Offshore wind, and the manufacturing and shipping industries it supports, is in perfect alignment with the region’s military related service industries and labor force. Offshore wind will provide good jobs for military veterans close to home. The renewable energy industry employs 67 percent more veterans than the national average. Avangrid Renewable’s workforce is more than 20 percent veterans, who bring valuable knowledge, skills, and experience from their years of service.
